A6 Wistow Road Roundabout , Kibworth

Firstly, I would like to introduce myself: I am Angie Dunn, a Project Manager within the Transport Projects and Programmes Team.

Background

In 2017, a number of improvements along the A6 in Kibworth were identified within a Cumulative Impact Study to mitigate development within the area. As a result of this S106 has been received to manage the cumulative impact of development on the highway network.

In order to reduce capacity in line with the Section 106 obligations it was decided to prioritise the A6/ Wistow Road junction as this showed the greatest capacity delays and any improvements to the other junctions ahead of this would be lessened by delays at this junction. The New Road junction would be the second priority, as this showed the second highest capacity delays.

Sufficient funds have now been received which allows us to finalise the design of the A6/ Wistow Road junction and support the improved operation of the A6 as a strategic corridor in the County and ensures capacity benefits of future schemes are realised (e.g. New Road).

Nevertheless, the County Council acknowledges that these improvements are not the ultimate solution as the A6 operates above capacity. This can only be resolved by the development of a longer-term strategic solution.

Proposed Improvement Works – A6 Leicester Road/Wistow Road roundabout

Leicestershire County Council will be making improvements at the A6 Leicester Road/Wistow Road roundabout to create a more efficient junction for all road users. These improvements include:

• Widening on Wistow Road and Leicester Road on the approaches to the roundabout.
• Widening on the exit lanes into Kibworth to allow traffic to merge.
• Resurfacing the carriageway and applying new road markings.

What are the next steps?

• Refine the programme and cost estimate.​
• Carry out any necessary surveys to ensure the buildability of the scheme
